The Lakota Elders are the best source of wisdom about the Lakota Way of Life and Spirituality. Lately, due to alcoholism and disinterest among the youth, many Lakota elders are passing without being able to share their wisdom. Each one is in effect taking with him an irretrievable piece of the Lakota Way of Life and Spirituality. For those who are concerned about the Lakota heritage being lost, this creates urgency to act before all the elders are gone...and with them their sacred trust.
The Hochoka Healing Center has taken on as one of its primary goals, the videotaping of the remaining Lakota elders who wish to share their insights about the vanishing Lakota Way of Life and Prayer. The goal is to make a living record of stories, songs, and remembrances from a people who have always passed on their teachings orally. And, then to make this record available at the Hochoka Healing Center’s educational centers and on loan, to those who would like to learn more about the valuable messages given to the Lakota People about how to live a good life. A Way of Life where all Creation is considered as important as oneself.
